Capitol Lauds Iloilo’s Most PWD-Friendly Local Government Units

In celebration of the 47th National Disability Rights Week, the Iloilo Provincial Government recognized the outstanding efforts of local government units (LGUs) in promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) through inclusive governance and community-based initiatives.

Taking the top honor as the Most PWD-Friendly LGU was the Municipality of Pototan, which received a P50,000 cash prize for its exemplary programs for the PWD sector. New Lucena was named first runner-up with a P30,000 prize, followed by Leganes as second runner-up, receiving P20,000.

The awarding ceremony was led by Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, PSWDO Acting Head Rani Melvi Cuarte, Social Welfare Officer IV and PWD Officer Designate Ann Rapunzel Ganzon, and PSWDO PWD Focal Person Ma. Christine Roa.

In his message, Cuarte stressed the need for inclusive governance and sustainable assistance:

“This celebration is a reaffirmation of our collective duty to protect and fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities. Inclusion must never be treated as a privilege—it is a right.”

Also acknowledged as finalists were the municipalities of Leon, Concepcion, Sara, and Barotac Viejo.

In line with this, the League of Municipalities of the Philippines – Iloilo Chapter extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winning and participating LGUs. The LMP Iloilo commends their commitment to inclusive public service and regards them as inspiring models of local governance that uphold the dignity and welfare of PWDs. Their efforts serve as a powerful reminder that compassion, accessibility, and empowerment must always be at the heart of development.

Through continuous collaboration and community support, the Iloilo Provincial Government and its LGUs affirm their shared mission to build a society where every person—regardless of ability—can thrive.
